I Hear Bells!

Not wedding bells, school bells! High school bells to be exact! I know I haven't posted in a while and decided to make a "short/sweet" post to let you all know that I'm still here! lol School has T-I-R-E-D M-E- O-U-T! Yes, literally!! I feel so drained when I get home that I immediately take naps! As of now, my hair is being "protected from the expected". Wonder why I say this? Well let's just say going to school and trying to do hair, get dressed, get all my books together and making sure not to leave any books or my purse, and getting on the bus is hectic for someone like me! I hate getting up early and I have to drag myself out of bed just to figure out what I'm going to wear and being a girl it's so many outfits I go through before picking out the "right" one for that day, sometimes wearing the first outfit that was picked! I love school, don't get me wrong! lol But yes, just wanted to let you wonderful naturalistas know that I'm still here! Hope you enjoy your weekend and until next time. . .  .

Review:

I received this product in the sample size and have used it several times since receiving it! A little bit of this gel does go a long way! I have 4c hair and gels are always one of my must have for my twist-outs or whenever I need to lock in moisture without using a butter or grease. When I received the first thing I did was opened it and this wonderful smell just took over me! I love,Love,LOVE the scent of this! The scent had me so eager to try it that I forgot to spray my hair with water before even applying it.Guess what? I didn't need the water. YES, NO WATER WAS NEEDED! Now, everyone with kinky hair knows that water must be used before anything else is.Once I applied this to the sections of my hair, I literally felt it dissolving, and it felt so good to my fingers! I immediately felt the moisture in my hair and was easily able to run my hands through it. As I was twisting my hair, I noticed that it had a nice shine to it. Not only that, but the twists stayed in place and didn't unravel. I think unraveling is one of the main things naturals hate to happen when  twisting their hair! The next morning, my hair was still moisturized with shine and I must say this is the real deal! My twists were still in place and soft, no crunchiness or hardness what so ever! I could definitely tell the difference in my twist pattern! It was so well formed and pretty compared to the other gels I'd been using previously!  My twist-out came out very defined and as mentioned before I didn't have to use that much gel too get my results! I know the price may be a little pricey for some but it is definitely worth every single penny! I can already tell you that this will be on my back-to-school shopping list for Target! This has officially become another one of my staple products!

My Natural Hair Journey: A Teen's Desire

Today I finally took out the time to tell you all about my natural hair journey for the first time EVER!
(I'm 9 almost 10 months natural as of now btw!)

The Journey:
I had very long and thick hair when I was a little girl. Before and after I started getting perms. I got perms at prob. about 5,6,or7, can't remember lol. One day we were in Wal-Mart and my mom was about to get the pink touch (one with olive oil) which she always uses on my hair until her friend came up and talked her into getting one of those perms were 2 come in the box for the same price as one pink touch perm. My mom gave it a try and afterwards while my aunt was styling it she noticed hair was coming out. She thought my hair was just shedding. Weeks after weeks my hair was getting shorter and shorter and within a year I went from Mid-back length hair to neck length.:( My mom,grand-mom,and auntie were very mad. I was furious!! I longed for that long hair I had and sometimes cried because my hair just stayed neck length. I would go off and on to the salon after that and the stylist def. knew what she was doing because my hair loved it and grew shoulder length. After while I started going to different stylists and back to neck length it went. Fast forward to my 8th grade year when I went back to the salon that I thought made my hair grow oh so fast. My hair was so damaged she ended up cutting it ear length. I was disappointed but loved the look after I'd grew too it. I got some kinky twists last March and after those were taken out I got  a perm that would be my Last one! I didn't really know that I was going natural. I was just giving my hair a break for a couple of months. Come September, I started looking at straw sets since my mom had suggested I would look cute with them and came across these beautiful women with natural hair, one in particular NikkiMae2003. I was so inspired when I saw her get the BC and watched her hair journey and her styles and tips and saw how natural hair grew so fast, health, and almost any style. I was so anxious to have a 'fro that even though I had a appointment with a stylist that Friday I watched people cut their hair at home and started "experimenting" until my mom said that I should let someone who knows what they're doing do it. So I did  and on that day September 23rd  I was grinning the whole 10 miles back home posing for the camera , and was so thrilled with all the positive feedback I got from the stylist, my mom, grandparents, and a lot of my friends! I was so skeptical about going to school being the 1st black natural girl. I looked over it, got up that day ,(the 26th to be exact ) and stuck my little flower in my hair and went to school. A lot of the girls loved it and was asking me how to get their hair like mines and how I did it.Some people were being simple minded and talked about me,because they never thought I would've did it. I looked over some and talked back to some but after they saw how good of condition my hair was and the styles they were the main ones giving me compliments. Now we all get the "Why you cut your hair, it was so long?!" When in actuality it was short and unhealthy before.  Now almost 10 months later my hair is healthy, I've built up my self esteem (it was high before but it's even Higher now! lol) and learned to just be me and not be scared to be unique with my kinks. That's how I got my username by the way lol Unique girl with Kinks at the age of 14.
I know it's long but I've been longing to do a caption of my natural hair journey while transitioning and not transitioning and I finally did it!!!

Review:
I won this  Speedy Recovery Banana Deep Conditioning Masque through a giveaway not to long and just tried it Monday. I have 4c hair and my hair always needs moisture. I've tried different deep conditioning products with zero to minimum success, with some of them not smelling so good. I applied this to my hair after washing it and let it sit for about 30 minutes.( I currently do not own a Hair Therapy Wrap, so I just used a shower cap with a towel wrapped around tightly.) Wondering why the  30 minutes? Well, let's just say I haven't deep conditioned  my hair in a very long time! When I rinsed it out, my hair was so soft, and smooth! I could literally run my hands through my hair and when detangling the comb glided right through my hair! After my hair had dried it was still soft and didn't feel as if it needed moisture! I will be using this product in the future and start back DC'ing since I've finally found a good one!

4C Hair: Dealing With Split Ends

Split ends is a hair dilemma that almost every one has or will experience, especially ones with 4c type hair. Our hair is more prone to getting split ends due to the tangles and knots that our hair easily can get. There are numerous of ways that split ends occur if it's from combing the hair the wrong way, the use of heat, or handling the hair toughly. If you're experiencing split ends, don't just let them stay-TRIM THEM! The longer you wait to do something about them the more they will rise up your hair shaft leading your hair to even more damage. Here are some ways to keep those split ends away:

-Detangle your hair while it's damp or completely wet with conditioner.
Don't try it on dry hair, this is one of the main reasons for split ends occurring!

-Avoid using to much heat on your hair.
The more heat you use, the more damage you're likely to encounter.

-Always make sure to keep those ends moisturized!
You can use a oil such as Castor or EVOO or a butter such as Shea Butter.

-Give your hair a break from the daily styling.
Try doing protective styles, this gives your hair a break and keeps those ends from splitting.

-Trim your ends whenever needed.
This saves you and your hair from unnecessary damage and keep those ends healthy.

-Deep Condition your hair weekly or at least once a month.
This will help ensure that your hair shaft stays strong!

-Sleep with a satin or silk scarf (or pillowcase) when you go to bed!
This will help a lot, the cotton in your pillowcases can dry your hair out. Scarfs and pillowcases made with satin or silk doesn't "roughen" the hair up!

-Most importantly comb your hair with care!
Rough-handling your hair will definitely cause split ends!

Hopefully this will help someone out there!

Kinky Curly Knot Today Review

"KNOT TODAY  is a creamy herbal conditioner and detangler designed to smooth the cuticle and remove knots, snarls and tangles from thick curly textured hair.

After washing hair, apply KNOT TODAY TM generously and work through troubled areas with a wide tooth comb. Can be used as a regular rinse out conditioner for wavy hair or as a leave-in for thicker curlier hair types. An excellent product to use after removing braids and extensions."(Taken from Kinky-Curly.com)

First, before I start my review I want to give a big Thanks to the wonderful BMOR3Natural for providing me with this product to review!

The Review:
Let me just say I've always had high hopes for this product with all the rave that it has been getting from other naturals.

Price: $11.99

Ingredients:
Organic mango extract, organic slipper elm, organic marshmallow root, organic lemongrass, cetyl alcohol, behentrimonium methosulfate, citric acid, phenoxyethanol and natural fragrance.
Immediately after I received the KCKT I applied it to my hair!(4c to be exact) I was hooked to it immediately! This was the first time that I was able to apply a product to my hair without water and easily run my fingers through my hair without any hair getting tangled and it feeling moist! Another great thing about this product is the shine that I'm able to get from it. When I used the Knot Today for my twist-out, the twists came out so soft and shiny and unraveling them was not a problem what so ever. (And has officially became my first staple product!) So actually it can be used for detangling, leave-in conditioner, and styling! Everybody was complementing me on how moist and soft my hair looked and asking me what I used. When detangling my hair the come just runs through my hair like water, and even though I have 4c hair I get little curls/spirals when I put this product in with water! I can definitely tell the difference this product has had by the less amount of hair that's been falling in my sink!

Definitely will keep using this product for my hair! And another big thank you to BMOR3Natural for helping me experience the good benefits of this product!

Six Month Nappiversary!

6 Months Natural: Flat Ironing My 4c Hair

Decided To Pull It Back In A Hump In The Front(Day 5/6)

(Day5/6)
I know I'm a little overdue on this post, but for my 6 month nappiversary, I decided to give my hair an oh so needed trim and see how long it had gotten. I was so scared at first while getting it straightened, just thinking about some of the experiences with heat damage that a lot of naturalists have experienced. Well let me tell you, the day after my hair had already started reverting on the ends a little bit, so I know that my ends aren't experiencing any heat damage. Today will mark the 6th day since I've gotten my hair straightened and it's still holding on! (Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing lol) I must admit though, I am very much missing my 'fro! Here are some pics:

Shea Moisture Curl And Shine Kit (4C Hair)

I had been looking at reviews about the Shea Moisture Curl and Shine Kit on YouTube and saw how many naturals were for this kit.  So recently, I decided to purchase the kit from Walgreen's. It was on sale for $15.99, meaning I saved $5.00.I was so joyful/amazed at all the ingredients it didn't have in it! All of the ingredients were natural ones!! I had been searching high and low for a product like this, trying all kinds of products that cost way more than this and just knew that I had to buy it! I had been looking at reviews about it on YouTube and saw how many naturals were for this kit.

-Shea Moisture Curl & Shine Shampoo-
After applying this shampoo (repeating 3x), my hair didn't feel  "squeaky" like it did with the other products that I was using. My hair was soft and felt very moisturized. This shampoo cleans very well to not have any sulfates in it.

-Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk-
One Word-Amazing!!!!!!!! I use this everyday! This is the one I love the most out of the whole kit. I love using this for detangling my hair and also when I'm styling it. To me, I prefer it on damp hair than dry hair, the results make a difference.

-Shea Moisture Hold & Shine Moisture Mist-
I used this recently on my two-day old twist-out.This stuff made my hair look like I had just did my twist-out! Plus, it added a little gloss to my hair.

-Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie-
Omg, I love this stuff as much as I do the curl and style milk! This stuff is awesome! I used this as a deep conditioner and my hair felt so good afterwards! I love to incorporate this with the curl and style milk for styling and when I wear my afro. These two together make my curls pop like never before!!!

I will definitely be using these products and most likely trying their other products!
